The most dramatic entrance on the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards white carpet belonged to Beyoncé (because Beyoncé), but the men of the music industry turned a few heads too. From Future killing it in a bold black-and-white tuxedo jacket to Ansel Elgort in full-on S&M-level Dior, here’s who caught our attention this year. We’re not calling them all winners, but perfection isn’t what an MTV awards show is typically all about.

Future

Future’s all-black look, topped off with a killer tuxedo jacket, is proof that sometimes you don’t need to reinvent menswear in order to be the best-dressed guy in the room.

Ansel Elgort

Ansel Elgort’s fashion choices—in this case, some punk-inspired Dior—are always a little bit surprising. But then you remember he’s the son of a famous fashion photographer, and it sort of explains his editorial bravery.

Chance The Rapper

Here is one of the few guys in the game who can make us look kindly upon tight tan overalls and matching sneakers. This guy’s got enough charm to hide pretty much any fashion sin.

Desiigner

This outfit might seem crazy but, actually, it’s just further proof that pink is the menswear trend that isn’t going anywhere. That and Wiz Khalifa-inspired shirtless-ness.

Diddy

Tonight Diddy continued his legacy of being your mom’s favorite person in hip-hop by wearing a nice-looking pair of trousers and a matching silk kimono. We missed the guy.

DJ Khaled

DJ Khaled might have been a little bit overdressed in his shiny tux and Gucci loafers but we won’t count that against him. He looks sharp and comfortable.

G-Eazy

G-Eazy wasn’t the only man to flash some bare chest on the red carpet tonight but he wins the award for Most Hedi Slimane-Approved.

Jaden Smith

Jaden Smith relied on his go-to formula for looking cool: black jeans, black sneakers, and a coat that does all the talking. We’re not mad at it.

Kanye West

West kept a low profile in a low-key outfit we’ve seen him wear a thousand times. Guess those are the perks of being Famous.

Michael Phelps

For an athlete with so many accolades, you’d think Phelps would let his freak flag fly a little bit in the wardrobe department. Still, his neutral separates are perfectly respectable.

Nick Jonas

If you want the Cliffs Notes on what’s happening in menswear at the moment look at Nick Jonas’s higher-waist pants, low-cut undershirt, and macho Louis Vuitton bomber.

Shameik Moore

It might be insane to wear a big-ass shearling in 80-degree weather, but when you’ve got one this good, and it’s the VMAs, you can’t let it go to waste.
