Museum Of Science And Industry Gets Its New Roomie

The Museum of Science and Industry's new resident moved in on Wednesday.

Kate McGroarty, a teacher and writer from the Andersonville neighborhood, will spend the next 30 days living inside a clear box at the museum.

McGroarty was chosen out of 1,500 contestants as the "Month at the Museum" contest winner earlier this month.

As the winner of the contest, McGroarty will live in the museum from October 20 to November 18. During her month stay, she will blog about what is it like to interact with visitors and be part of a living experiment and exhibit.

She admits it's all a bit overwhelming but she says she's not scared, according to ABC 7 Chicago.

On move-in day, McGroarty was presented with her 30 "Month at the Museum" t-shirts (one for each day), a technology package to document her experience, and an "all access" pass to explore every part of her new temporary home.

"Time I arrived at the museum this morning: 5:45 a.m. Time I had a moment to sit down and write a blog post: 7:30 p.m.," McGroarty wrote in her first blog post Wednesday. Yes, it seems like an extremely long day, but McGroarty didn't seem to mind. "Hey if it's going to be one of the best days of my life, why not extend it as long as possible?"

Though her life will be on public display for the next month, she does have her own private sleeping quarters--and will be taking home a $10,000 check at the end of her stay.
