Zimbabwe has recently been gripped in power struggle between President
Robert Mugabe and the political opposition that calls for democratic reform.
Though Mugabe won the recent presidential election, the United States and
much of the international community has called the vote illegitimate. I
recently spoke with four people who know the country well: Michelle Gavin of
the Council on Foreign Relations, Philip Gourevitch of the Paris Review and
the New Yorker Magazine, Chenjerai Hove of Brown University, and Andrew
Meldrum, a journalist who covered the country for two decades before he was
expelled.
