For the first time in a long time, we have the opportunity to create a new progressive economic platform. To do this, we need to question many of the economic assumptions of the last 30 years.

Each day, news about the economy is darker. We're losing more jobs, our financial system is in meltdown, and people are losing their homes. I entered this race to confront this crisis. I'm not a career politician. But, I have fought for working people my entire life. I am not new to seeing people losing their jobs, health care and pensions. We're heading into a time of real trouble.

Crisis as the saying goes, offers opportunity. I believe for the first time in a long time, we have the opportunity to create a new progressive economic platform. To do this, we need to question many of the economic assumptions of the last 30 years.

Recently, I had a talk with William Greider, the National Affairs Correspondent for The Nation. Bill is one of the preeminent economic journalists of the our times, and for over a decade has written presciently about the financial mess in which we've landed.

Bill Greider says, "We are at a decisive break point in the American story when the country desperately needs political leaders and politicians with the brains and guts to think anew about how our economy should operate."

Our discussion is wide ranging, touching on the financial crisis, the bank bailout, the growing economic contraction, and many other subjects.
