Police in Washington state say a cryptic text message sent from a missing man's cellphone has caused heightened concern for his safety.

"My luck has run out," is the Feb. 5 message Richard Arneson purportedly sent to a neighbor said. Police have yet to confirm whether the sender was the 62-year-old West Seattle resident himself.

Seattle Police Department Detective Patrick Michaud said Arneson failed to show up for work that day and a friend who went to check on him found the back door of his apartment open.

Police said there is no indication of foul play in Richard Arneson's disappearance.

When police were called to the scene they "checked inside Arneson's home and didn't find any sign of him or any indications of foul play," Michaud said in a statement.

His current whereabouts remain a mystery. No further details about the case were available Friday morning.

Arneson is described as white with gray hair and blue eyes. He is about 6 feet tall and weighs about 170 pounds.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Seattle Police Department at 206-684-5007.
