Myrtle Beach Deck Collapse Sends More Than A Dozen To Hospital

Deck Collapse Sends Tourists To Hospital

A deck collapse in the seaside resort community of Pawleys Island, S.C., sent several people to the hospital Friday afternoon.

WMBF reports a total of 13 people were injured in the accident, which occurred at the Sea View Inn, near Myrtle Beach, a popular vacation destination.

A group of around 30 people had gathered on the deck to admire a rainbow over the ocean when the water-logged structure gave way. At least one person suffered a major injury. According to ABC News, witnesses said the group was trying to take a selfie with the rainbow in the background.

In an interview with Carolina Live, Rich Regan, who was on the deck, said he and his son escaped injury by jumping from the balcony, but described the scene as "pretty horrific." "It's ten feet down," he said, "and wood and splinters and nails and a lot of blood and people screaming."
