50th NAACP Image Awards: Here Are The Winners

"Black Panther" won Outstanding Motion Picture and Beyoncé won Entertainer of the Year.

The NAACP Image Awards celebrated 50 years of existence this year with the annual awards ceremony on Saturday.

The show was telecasted live from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood for the first time ever. Winners in some categories were revealed at a nontelevised dinner ceremony on Friday, ahead of Saturday’s live awards show.

This year, Marvel’s “Black Panther” won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Motion Picture. It also scored wins in directing and writing categories.

Leon W. Russel, chairman of the NAACP National Board of Directors, presented Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) with the NAACP Chairman’s Award during the ceremony, which was hosted by “Black-ish” actor Anthony Anderson.

“Black-ish” also scored multiple wins Saturday night, with members of its cast, including Anderson, Marsai Martin, Tracee Ellis Ross and Marcus Scribner all taking home awards.

Beyoncé took home the NAACP Entertainer of the Year award.

Founded in 1969, the awards honor the “achievements and performances of people of color in the arts, as well as those individuals or groups who promote social justice through their creative endeavors,” according to the NAACP.
