Its roots lie in India, its core stems from Hinduism, and its following is worldwide. Yoga and traveling go hand in hand. As I packed my backpack with wanderlust in my eyes and adventure in my heart, I dreamed of all the places I could bring yoga on my eight-month trip across Asia. With my best friend by my side, we quit our New York City jobs, took out a map, and booked a one way ticket to Tokyo, Japan. Covering 12 countries and 12 languages, we explored and gallivanted through dream-like, untouched scenes that opened my eyes and expanded my mind -- the exact cliché you'd imagine hearing from a traveler. Kerouac said it well in Big Sur: "Clichés are truisms and all truisms are true."

Because my beautifully unstructured life no longer included my regular 6:30 p.m. yoga class in Flatiron, I brought my practice with me. Angkor Wat and Maya Bay were begging to be embellished with a tree pose or a downward facing dog. How could I resist?
