After losing a beloved 76-year-old store clerk to an unspeakable attack, a Texas community has stepped up to help the grieving family.

Nancy Harris, the warm gas station employee known as “grandma” to local students, was set on fire during a robbery and died Saturday from injuries she sustained, NBCFW reports.

To honor the generous clerk, who gave them smiles and free sodas, the students of South Garland High School organized a car wash and raised $10,000 to help out Harris’ family.

"It hurts deep down,” Dylan Stooksberry, president of the school's student council, told the news outlet, “and honestly if someone is going to go out of their way to do something bad like that, I am going to go out of my way to do something nice.”

Services for Harris will be held Wednesday in Dallas, according to a Facebook page set up in her memory. Visit her page to find out what you can do to help.
