One of the subplots of last year's awards season was not only seeing Natalie Portman make the rounds accepting her countless trophies for "Black Swan," but seeing her do so while navigating a press desperate for any shred of detail about her pregnancy. After she claimed her Best Actress trophy, she largely disappeared, except for a few promotional duties for "Thor," "Your Highness," "Hesher," and "No Strings Attached," all of which she shot before bringing a baby on board. Now, as we face a Portman-less 2012 honors fest, word is emerging that she may be in the midst of plotting her comeback.
According to the LA Times, Portman has been asked by Lana and Andy Wachowski, her "V For Vendetta" producers, to star in "Jupiter Ascending." Production on the sci-fi "Jupiter" wouldn't begin until next fall, after the Wachowski's wrap up their Tom Hanks, Hugo Weaving, Hugh Grant, Halle Berry and Jim Sturgess-starring "Cloud Atlas," which they are co-directing with Tom Tykwer.
Word was also relayed on Wednesday that novelist Jonathan Safran Foer, whose book "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" was made into a film that's current in theaters, revealed this summer in an interview with a French news source that Portman was planning on making a documentary out of his food manifesto, "Eating Animals." Portman wrote in 2009 for HuffPost that reading the book turned her vegan.
Portman has her own production company, Handsomecharlie Films, which she started in 2007. She backed "Hesher," which starred Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and is behind the ever-delayed "Pride and Prejudice and Zombies."
