It seems like there is a holiday for just about everything these days. National Donut Day, Star Wars Day and even... Margarita Day. Yup, February 22nd is National Margarita Day which means on this day you put away your glass of wine and pull out the shaker.
When we think of margaritas our choices are often on the rocks, frozen, with or without salt, or premium tequila or house. Hold on to your lime, I’m about to show you a few amazing options you’ve probably never considered.
Being from Texas I have to throw in this tidbit of information: The original margarita dates back to 1948 when Dallas socialite Margarita Sames invented the cocktail with only 3 ingredients for a lunchtime soiree. Those ingredients were Cointreau, Tequila and fresh lime.
Sixty years later we still use the same ingredients to create said cocktail. However the mixologists at Cointreau have created a few new recipes to help celebrate National Margarita Day!
The Original - For those purists, here is the original recipe:
Ingredients:
1 oz Cointreau. 2 oz Blanco Tequila
1 oz Fresh Lime Juice Lime wheel for garnish
Combine all ingredients in a shaker tin and add ice. Shake and strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
Garnish with salt rim (optional) and lime wheel.
