Navy Seal Explains How He Found Happiness After Returning From Combat

How This Navy Seal Overcame His Combat 'Baggage' To Find Happiness

Brent Gleeson was unhappy working in finance, so he quit his job to join the Navy.

But that wouldn't be the only time he would make a significant life change in pursuit of happiness. Upon returning home from combat, Gleeson and his wife decided to end their marriage, leaving him as a single father.

"That created a lot of turmoil in my life," he told HuffPost Live's Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani, referring to his divorce. "So focusing on my own personal happiness took a far, far backseat to things like raising my son."

It was the skills he learned in the armed forces, he explained, that helped him find a sense of balance in this trying time.

"[Being a Navy Seal] gives you the ability to manage stress and anxiety better," he explained. "It helps you really put things into perspective, and focus on the things in life that really matter."
