No blockbuster deals went down on the day of the 2013 NBA Trade Deadline. No All-Stars were dealt on Thursday. No contender, or team hoping to break into the contending class, made a major move in the eleventh hour.
As the 3 p.m. deadline came and went at NBA HQ in New York City, the Thunder's Deadline Day acquisition of defensive specialist Ronnie Brewer from New York (reportedly for a 2014 second-round draft pick) was the last-minute move likeliest to impact the chase for the Larry O'Brien Trophy.
After weeks of speculation about his future destination, Josh Smith spent the afternoon in Atlanta eating conch salad made by his mother rather than being dealt by the Hawks. Similarly, Kevin Garnett stayed in Boston after rumors that he could be shipped to the Clippers.
As it turned out, the biggest in-season deal occurred with weeks to spare before the deadline when the Grizzlies shipped Rudy Gay, the team's leading scorer at the time of the deal, to the Raptors in a three-team, five-player swap in January that may help the team's bottom line more than its stat line.
