NBC has passed on the "Hatfields and McCoys" pilot, produced by Charlize Theron, The Wrap reports.
The network's decision to skip the modern-day "Hatfields and McCoys" drama comes as a bit of a surprise, considering the success of History's miniseries on the legendary families and the cast that had joined the pilot: Oscar nominee Virginia Madsen, "Risky Business" star Rebecca De Mornay and "One Tree Hill" alum Sophia Bush had signed on in addition to Nick Westrate, Patrick John Fleuger, Jesse Lee Soffer and Annie Ilonzeh.
NBC's "Hatfields and McCoys" pilot centered on the legendary family feud in present-day Pittsburgh when a startling death reignited the battle between the wealthy Hatfields and the working-class McCoys for control of the city. De Mornay had been cast as sophisticate Mary Hatfield, the mayor of Pittsburgh, Marsden was set to play tough as nails McCoy matriarch Eloise with Bush joining the project as her daughter Emma.
The Wrap also reported that in addition to "Hatfields and McCoys," NBC has passed on six other pilots: the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced "Secret Lives of Husbands and Wives"; the semi-autobiographical comedy from "New Girl" executive producers Joe Port and Joe Wiseman called "Joe, Joe and Jane"; "Drop-Off," based on the British comedy "The Gates," starring "Party Down's" Ken Marino; "Holding Patterns," the ensemble comedy about a group of friends who survive a plane crash; thriller "Bloodlines," starring "Breaking Bad's" Jonathan Banks, which centered on an orphaned young girl caught between two warring families; and "The Sixth Gun," based on the best-selling graphic novel of the same name.
NBC's 2013-2014 schedule is expected to be unveiled on Sunday.
