NBC's "Nightly News" delivered ratings gold last week.
The network's evening broadcast has been covering the 2012 Olympic games and reported record ratings after its first full week live from London.
"Nightly" topped its competition in both total viewers and the coveted A 25-54 demographic, delivering its best ever advantage over ABC's "World News" and "CBS Evening News" since the start of Nielsen's People Meter in 1987. "Nightly" beat "World News" by nearly 4 million viewers, and "CBS Evening News" by roughly 5.3 million viewers.
This is good news for the NBC evening news broadcast, since the ratings race has been getting closer and closer. In mid-July, "World News" brought it its largest audience in two months, trailing "Nightly" by only 416,000 viewers.
The program also drew larger audiences than similar weeks in the Beijing and Athens Olympics. "Nightly" brought in 10.849 million total viewers, the show's highest in total viewers since the revolution in Egypt broke out in January 2011.
NBC's coverage of the 2012 London games has delivered record ratings, with 40.7 million viewers tuning into the Opening Ceremony. Although the morning show wars reached fever pitch when "Today" landed in London, the NBC morning program topped ABC rival "Good Morning America" by an average of 1.6 million viewers each day last week.
