The Northeast braced for potentially historic snowstorm Nemo on Thursday, with agencies urging caution and preparation in advance of the blizzard.

The National Weather Service issued blizzard and coastal flood warnings from New York to Maine, with a large area covered by a winter storm warning. Forecasts of hazardous winter weather brought words of caution from governments, who urged people not to travel. Airlines canceled hundreds of flights hours in advance of the storm.

This interactive graphic by Google maps severe weather warnings, watches, advisories and statements issued by the National Weather Service. As of Thursday evening, snowstorm Nemo's path stretched from New York, northern New Jersey and parts of Pennsylvania on up through New England into Maine.

CNBC reported that the the historic storm would be the result of two weather systems combining to bring "the biggest dump of snow" that the region has seen in several years.
