New Fuel-Efficient, Low-Pollution CSX Trains Unveiled (VIDEO)

What could be more appropriate than green locomotives on St. Patrick's Day in Chicago?

But four locomotives unveiled in the city Tuesday by the CSX railway aren't the color green. They're fuel-efficient locomotives, called GenSet, that CSX says reduce some pollutants by 80%.

CSX spokesman Gary Sease says they're the first such locomotives to operate in Illinois.

They'll be used to switch train cars at a rail yard in suburban Riverdale and make up half the locomotive fleet there.

Jacksonville, Fla.-based CSX says GenSet locomotives also slash carbon dioxide emissions by 50%. And they're quieter than standard locomotives.

CSX only has a few other of the $1.5 million locomotives elsewhere, including two in Dearborn, Mich.
