
August proved to be a big month to set up shop. To choose just five openings that bested the rest seemed almost unfair, so we set up two rules: No U.S. "chain" restaurants (but, nonetheless, a fist bump to Beverly Hills' Bouchon Bakery and Culver City's Ramen Yamadaya), and nothing faux (Fonuts, we love you something beautifully baked, but a full-fledged restaurant you're not quite).
