New 'NCIS' Spinoff Set In New Orleans In The Works From Mark Harmon

A new "NCIS" spinoff is in the works at CBS.

According to Deadline, "NCIS" star Mark Harmon and executive producer Gary Glasberg are behind the new series. A backdoor pilot will air as a two-part episode of "NCIS" this spring.

The new "NCIS" spinoff would follow an NCIS team based in New Orleans that handles cases in Mississippi, Louisiana and the Texas panhandle. "NCIS: Los Angeles," which just filmed its 100th episode, started as an episode of "NCIS." Last season, CBS attempted another "NCIS" spinoff with a two-part "NCIS: Los Angeles" episode. "NCIS: Red" was not ordered to series.

CBS is keen on spinoff of established shows. "CSI" gave way to "CSI: New York" and "CSI: Miami" and "Criminal Minds" had a short-lived spinoff. "NCIS" itself is a spinoff of "JAG." "NCIS" was TV's most-watched show last season, averaging 21.3 million viewers.
