Netflix Just Got A Bold New Icon

It's not about "flicks" anymore.

Well, this is different:

Netflix

Netflix, the popular video streaming service, dramatically overhauled its icon on social media Monday. The company said in a statement to The Verge that it's not ditching the old logo, but it will incorporate a bold new "N" in apps and other products moving forward. In other words, you'll probably continue to see "Netflix" spelled out when you visit the website and use the service otherwise, but the icon might pop up on your smartphone and elsewhere.

Currently, the Netflix mobile app icon spells the entire word out:

Google Play

And that calls attention to the fact that, actually, "Netflix" is kind of a weird name for a service in 2016. We don't call it the internet the "net" anymore! And certainly Netflix is now about more than just "flicks," with original series like "Daredevil" and "Orange is the New Black."

Hmm, maybe the company should think about a more thorough rebranding, after all.
