In just the last few weeks, the Edgewater area has turned into the hub of new restaurant openings. Here's a rundown of what's new on the North Side these days and what else this neighborhood has in store for the summer.
Just Opened
Burke's Public House: This tavern just opened during the last week of June. Pub grub like onion rings, Angus beef burgers and turkey clubs are done right at Burke's, with crispy waffle fries served alongside. Jin Thai: This BYOB Thai spot on Edgewater's Broadway strip just opened in mid-June. The small space at Jin Thai is decorated with modern touches while the menu focuses on Thai classics like pad Thai and stir-fried ginger chicken. Lady Gregory's: With its grand opening coinciding with Midsommarfest, plenty of Andersonville residents got the chance to check out this new Irish pub. The menu at Lady Gregory's features upscale comfort foods like mac and cheese and shepherd's pie along with plenty of great snacks and apps (try the truffle popcorn). Lickity Split Frozen Custard and Sweets: As one of the city's newest spots for cool summer treats, Lickity Split arrived just in time for the hot weather. Top off your trip to Edgewater's spacious Hollywood Beach with some frozen custard from this shop. Lick it straight from the cone or opt for one of their sundaes, shakes or malts instead.6056 N. The Burger Philosophy: Chicago certainly has no dearth of "upscale" burger joints, and it now has one more thanks to The Burger Philosophy, which opened over Memorial Day weekend. The concise menu at this counter-service spot includes fries, shakes and burgers like the Tropical Bud, a teriyaki-glazed beef burger with grilled onions and pineapple and The Gobbler, a turkey burger with Swiss and cranberry sauce.1541 W. Nookies: The fourth outpost of this popular chain is set to open in the Bryn Mawr historic district sometime this summer. Expect the classic breakfast items from other Nookies locations plus some new and more upscale dinner options as well. The planned patio will likely be a big draw during the warmer months.1100 W. Table: The owners of the recently closed Kith & Kin in Lincoln Park are bringing their talents north in the form of Table, an upscale, family-oriented dining destination.
