RNC Woos Women, Minorities In New Cable Ad

The Republican National Committee is aiming to improve its image among women and minorities across the U.S. with a new cable television ad, The Hill reported Monday.

The 30-second, six-figure ad features women and men from different ethnic groups announcing that they vote Republican for various reasons, including "religious freedom," anti-abortion values and a strong military. One man says he is a Republican in Spanish.


The ad will run in 14 states on cable networks with female- and minority-heavy audiences, including Bravo, the Food Network, TVOne, and some local affiliates of Telemundo.

"This ad campaign will highlight why so many million Americans vote Republican," RNC Chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement. "It's because we fight to empower people. It’s because we believe in the value of every person. It's because we know that each American should have the chance to create their own American Dream."

Democrats typically win the votes of eight out of 10 minority voters and a majority of women, who make up more than half of the national electorate. The Republican Party has been struggling to rebrand itself with these groups since its losses in the 2012 elections.

Rebecca Chalif, deputy press secretary for the Democratic National Committee, said of the RNC's ad in an email to HuffPost:

"A year after the GOP pledged to moderate their message and reach out to a broader electorate including women, people of color and young Americans, all Republicans have gotten is a year older. After blocking equal pay legislation, inserting themselves into health care decisions of women and families, and continuing commentary that would be more suited for the 1950’s than today, they’ve done nothing to change. No ad buy or superficial party changes are going to convince women otherwise."
