For their 50th anniversary, members of the Rolling Stones have a treat for long-time fans: some new music.
The band recorded two tracks for its upcoming greatest hits compilation GRRR!, which is set for release on Nov. 13. Titled "Doom and Gloom" and "One Last Shot," the songs are the first released by the Rolling Stones -- Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood -- since the album "A Bigger Bang" came out in 2005.
As Billboard.com notes, GRRR! is a massive 50-song package, with the new tracks placed alongside classics like "Street Fighting Man," "Start Me Up" and "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction." The Stones have a history with releasing greatest hits albums during anniversary years: The band's 40th anniversary was marked by the release of 40 Licks, which sold over 2.5 million copies.
Not that the new tracks should be much of a surprise. Back in August, Jagger got Stones fans excited for new music when he tweeted a picture of himself inside the recording studio.
In addition to the release of GRRR!, the Rolling Stones recently announced plans for four anniversary shows. The band will play two concerts at the O2 Arena in London and two at the soon-to-open Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
The Stones will also hit the film festival circuit this year to support the upcoming documentary "Crossfire Hurricane." Acclaimed filmmaker Brett Morgen ("The Kid Stays in the Picture") directed "Crossfire Hurricane," which will premiere at the London Film Festival in October before airing on HBO on Nov. 15.
"This is not an academic history lesson," Morgen said in a statement announcing the partnership with HBO. "'Crossfire Hurricane' allows the viewer to experience the Stones' journey from a unique vantage point. It's an aural and visual roller coaster ride."
