Twins usually have to share everything, but not these New Year's babies. They get their birthdays all to themselves. (At least, in their own families.)
On Dec. 31, 2013, at 11:58 p.m, ABC reports that Washington D.C. mom, Yaleni Santos Tohalino, gave birth to a baby girl, Lorraine Yaleni Begazo, at MedStar Washington Hospital Center hospital. Three minutes later at 12:01 on Jan. 1, 2014, Lorraine's twin brother, Brandon Ferdinando Begazo, made his way into the world.
The Begazo twins were a week ahead of schedule, but The Washington Post reports that mom is doing well after delivering the healthy 6 lb. baby girl and 5 lb. baby boy. Dad, Warren Begazo, is elated.
"(I'm) full of joy and energy," Begazo told ABC7 news. "Unbelievable happiness for this incredible event."
The twins' birthday split was not an isolated case, however. Lindsay Salgueiro of Toronto, Canada also gave birth to a set a fraternal twins -- girls -- that have different birth years.
Eight minutes separated Salguero's first twin from sharing a birth year with the second. Older twin Gabriela Salgueiro arrived at 11:52 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2013 with younger sis Sophia Salgueiro showing up right at the helm of January 1, 2014 at 12:00:38 a.m.
"Not a bad way to end the year and not a bad a way to start the year off," mom told ABC.
These siblings can now join the ranks of other twins with different birthdays, including three sets of different-year twins who made news in 2012, and even a pair born 87 days a part. But when it comes down to it, no matter the birthday, parenting is parenting.
Warren -- also dad to an 18-year-old son -- told USA Today that it's been a while since he changed diapers. But he's ready.
