New York City Snow Leaves Morning Commute A Mess; 3 Inches To Accumulate From Storm (PHOTOS)

NEW YORK CITY — Snow began blanketing the city early Friday morning, making for a messy rush-hour commute and accumulations of up to 3 inches expected before it stops, a National Weather Service official said.

The brunt of the snowfall, which began about midnight, had already dumped as much as two inches in parts of The Bronx and an inch in Midtown as of 6 a.m., the spokesman said.

Other parts of the tri-state area could see accumulations of up to 5 inches, the spokesman added.

Alternate-side parking was suspended Friday to assist snow removal. Meters and all other parking rules remain in effect.

The snowfall is expected to give way to light rains by early afternoon as temperatures crest into the low 40s, the spokesman said.

The blustering storm, part of the same system that pummeled the Midwest earlier this week, is expected to fully conclude by early evening, ahead of a calm and sunny Saturday, according to the Weather Service.
