New York Dating Survey: 25 Percent Of New Yorkers Would Not Date Someone Out Of Their Borough

Would You Date Someone Outside Of Your Borough?

Love may know no bounds elsewhere, but in New York, it knows boroughs.

A new survey reveals 25 percent of New Yorkers say they would not date someone living outside of their own borough.

AM New York reports that the Rent.com- produced survey shows 28 percent of Manhattanites are unwilling to date those in the outer boroughs. 23 percent of a slightly less snooty Queens say they wouldn't date someone in say, Brooklyn or the Bronx.

Why such resistance? According to couples psychologist Shamir A. Khan, certain borough stereotypes play a role. "NYC is a tough place for singles to find a solid connection," he said. "Manhattanites would have certain stereotypes about someone living in Staten Island, possibly, the other way around too."

And another explanation of course, is sheer distance. Recently, G train couples went into a panic when the MTA threatened to cut the line's extended service, potentially forcing Brooklyn couples to transfer trains between apartments. And that was for couples living in the same borough.

(Mercifully, the G train extension was saved.)

It's discouraging, of course, that some New Yorkers are kicking potential lovers to the curb because they can't get their butts on the train. Let's not be scared of other boroughs, okay New York? Take the parable of Miranda:
