If you've attended any of Donna Karan's fashion shows, especially the DKNY shows, then you know that each one is practically a love poem to the city of New York. The designer clearly draws inspiration and energy from the vibrant, bustling city on the island of Manhattan. Her Spring 2013 collection is as pared down as a New York City taxi cab with a pallette of yellow, stone washed denim, white and black. As the designer made clear in the show program notes, she sees the DKNY consumer as "
someone who's ready for anything. Day to night, street to chic. For her, fashion is personal, an endless possibility of expression.
" Just like the city of New York. The show opened with clean white dresses, blazers and blouses for easy warm weather looks. Then moved on to white separates paired with DKNY Jeans blouses and pants. The effect was easy chic that is as versatile as it is cost-effective.
After all, throw on a crisp white blouse and some DKNY jeans are you are ready to go just about anywhere. From these casual looks, the show then built to a more glamorous crescendo with uptown girl looks including a silver pencil skirt and some amazing jersey maxi dresses in yellow and black.
(images courtesy of DKNY)There were plenty of breezy black and white separates, basic black bathing suites and some graffiti like camouflage dresses on the runway too, so the show never really kicked into full glam. The DKNY Spring 2013 collection seemed to stay as grounded as most city girls, maybe dressing up every now and then, but mostly relying on some basic pieces to carry them through each day.
