On the same day that Portugal and France played out a fairly forgettable European Championship final, two teams in need of a win met in Harrison, NJ. The New York Red Bulls faced off against the Portland Timbers and both teams produced a match to rival the first 90 minutes of the earlier international, including a player stretchered off (Red Bulls Gideon Baah as opposed to Christiano Ronaldo).
Both teams made sporadic attempts to get a the ball into a decent shooting position, but the defenses held strong
From time to time, the Red Bulls tried to release Bradley Wright-Philips with a long ball, but it was all to no avail.
...so the midfield battles continued
When the ball did make it into the box, the defensive tackling continued to stymie the attacking forces.
Towards the end of the game the attacking play picked up, and several chances were made by both teams
So the game ended 0-0 with both teams having had 4 shots on goal, with none making it past either keeper.
