New York Times Gets Into The Cruise Business

All The Cruise That's Fit To Print

Not to be outdone by C-list celebrities and politicos, The Grey Lady is putting on her bikini and going cruising.

The New York Times announced Wednesday that it will launch Times Journeys. According to business wire, this new enterprise is "an educational travel program that connects readers and lifelong learners with Times journalists while they enjoy the pleasures of travel."

The maiden voyage, which will be made on Holland America's Nieuw Amsterdam, will be a 12-day tour of the Eastern Mediterranean. The ship will visit Italy, Croatia, Montenegro and Turkey. Confirmed speakers include Op-Ed columnist Joe Nocera and film critic A.O. Scott.

Insight Cruises, which is producing the Times cruise, also does tours branded by Macworld, Travel and Scientific American magazines reports The New York Observer.

"Times Journeys provides our readers and like-minded travelers an opportunity to learn from and interact with some of The Times’s most celebrated journalists,” Alice Ting, the Times' Executive Director of Brand Development told Business Wire. “Our first event provides an intimate setting where guests can absorb and explore The New York Times’s perspectives on relevant issues, events and pursuits while contributing to the exchange of ideas."

A recommendation for feature NYT cruisers: If you find yourself sitting with Jill Abramson, mention that you like dogs.
