Newt Gingrich: Dems 'Despise The Integrity Of Latino Voters'

Newt Gingrich acknowledged on the "Laura Ingraham Show" on Thursday morning that Republicans have to embrace Latino voters, as Latino defections from the GOP pose a massive demographic challenge in the fall. Like Mitt Romney and many Republicans, Gingrich has taken a hard line on immigration throughout the 2012 campaign, driving Latinos toward President Obama in record numbers.

"Oh, I think we have a huge problem. I think people shouldn't kid themselves about it," he said.

But both he and Ingraham blasted efforts to offer amnesty to undocumented immigrants, as well as the practice of providing government benefits to poor Latinos. "It also frankly shows that [Democrats] despise the integrity of Latino voters," Gingrich claimed. "Most Latino voters aren't looking for benefits, they're looking for a job. They're not looking for the government to take care of them, they're looking for a chance to take care of their own family."

Gingrich instead argued that his proposals would benefit Latinos in equal measure as other groups, pointing to his plan to bring gas prices back down to $2.50 per gallon. At current prices, he said, "they know that ... Barack Obama is killing their family budget."
