Newt Gingrich: Meghan McCain Doesn't 'Have A Clue' About My Campaign

GOP Candidate Lashes Back At Meghan McCain

GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich on Wednesday countered a recent jab by Meghan McCain, daughter of Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), questioning her knowledge of politics.

On Tuesday, Meghan McCain, an avid Mitt Romney supporter, sat down with Don Imus on his radio program and proceeded to slam some of the rival GOP candidates.

"He's just wasting everyone's time," McCain said of Texas Gov. Rick Perry. "It's the same thing I think about Newt Gingrich. I think you're wasting everyone's time. This is obviously some sort of vanity project, and I don't think running for president should be a vanity project."

"I don't like him," McCain added.

Gingrich shot back with an equally biting response Wednesday, in an interview with the Daily Caller.

"How would she have a clue?" Gingrich responded. "In yesterday's New York Times/CBS poll I'm in third place, in fact, I'm exactly where her father was -- in third place at this point in 2007."

Asked if he thought her opinion would have any sway over young Republicans, Gingrich responded, "no," with a laugh.

Gingrich's 10 percent in the Times/CBS News national GOP primary poll placed him in third place below former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Godfather's Pizza CEO Herman Cain, a strong finish for Gingrich, who has remained a consistent second-tier candidate, taking single digits in most polls.
