Miami Ad School students Max Pilwat, Keri Tan and Ferdi Rodriguez have come up with a concept video about how public libraries could share book samples via subway ads - via the Near Field Communication (NFC) technology embedded in many cell phones.

It's a great video - though we can't help feeling that publishers or online retailers might prefer to use the tech to persuade people to buy books, instead of borrow them.

Either way, this is hardly science fiction. We've already seen something similar in the real world from Samsung, an NFC-activated billboard in New York City that offered free music, content from The New York Times and Onion, plus, yes, book samples too:
