Nick Carter Opens Up About His Sister's Death On 'Dancing With The Stars'

He also talked about his past drug and alcohol abuse.

On Monday night's episode of "Dancing with the Stars," Backstreet Boy Nick Carter made an emotional admission about his past drug and alcohol use in a pre-recorded segment that aired before his first dance.

The touching clip showed Carter talking about his sister Leslie's 2012 death from an overdose, and how it influenced him to change his ways.

"I have been comfortable and happy to tell my story because I hope it can make a difference in somebody else's life and inspire them to realize that they are not alone," Carter said in an interview with People after Monday's "DWTS." "They can overcome any trouble in their life."

The 35-year-old entertainer has spoken about his sister's death before, even telling Dr. Phil in 2013 that his own family blamed him for Leslie's overdose.

"There's definitely a part of me that did blame myself," said Carter on the show. "I think that's because of the responsibility that I sort of took on as the oldest member in my family."

Nowadays, Carter is a healthier, happier version of his former self. After finding out he had a heart condition, called cardiomyopathy, Carter told Dr. Phil in 2011 that he began to focus on fitness and health. That focus has paid off, as Carter has danced his way to the final four on "DWTS."

Even better news? The Backstreet Boy also has a baby boy on the way with his wife, Lauren Kitt. Backstreet's Nick Carter's back, all right?
