Trinidad & Tobago’s Congress of the People (COP) sees the return of a past favorite, with Nicole Dyer-Griffith submitting nomination papers to run for office. Dyer-Griffith, who was formerly the COP Chairman, resigned in February of 2015 after seeing the COP continually sidelined by the United National Congress (UNC), and political leader Prakash Ramadhar failing to stand up against the coalition partners in support of the minority party. However, after seeing the direction the party has been heading Dyer-Griffith decided to get involved once again. A stale political and changing social climate in Trinidad and Tobago has left many people disillusioned and wanting change.

“We can't look to the government for solving the problems, because the government is the problem… we can't look to any politician for answers because so many of the politicians are questionable themselves… the Congress of the People once resonated with hundreds of thousands of citizens who yearned for a different kind of politics and genuine change in our nation. If there were ever a time to rekindle this vision and intention for a better life… it is now.”

The COP is currently led by Dr. Anirudh Mahabir who has seen several recent challenges to his leadership. Dyer-Griffith is no newcomer to the world of politics in Trinidad and Tobago, and with an extremely successful political track record and genuine love for her country, it seems as if Dyer-Griffith is the ideal candidate to turn the COP party around.

“I thought long and hard before making the decision to contest the leadership position because I know the level of dedication, commitment and sacrifice it will take to make a success of the rebuilding of party and country but I am confident that I have what it takes to make it work.“

At Kuros!® we believe that it is essential for women to be involved in their country’s political system, especially women as passionate and driven as Nicole. She has proven her passion for addressing women’s issues, most recently leading the charge on petitioning the Honorable Faris Al Rawi to amend legislation to allow women to protect themselves. We are excited to see that Nicole Dyer-Griffith is getting reacquainted with her political roots, and believe that she can lead the COP and Trinidad & Tobago towards a brighter tomorrow.
