A 5th grade teacher is fighting for her job after videotaping a student being stuck in a chair.
Last November, Nicole McVey, a teacher at Oaktree Elementary in Goodrich, Mich., filmed a video showing the 11-year-old boy struggling to free himself from the back of a chair.
The student reportedly has autism and got stuck in the chair during recess.
In the 10-minute video McVey can be heard asking the student if he wants to be "tasered." Later, school principal Michael Ellis can be heard saying the incident is "not really an emergency."
Ellis resigned shortly after the incident, according to WNEM-TV.
On the advice of her attorney, McVey has not commented on the incident nor explained why she documented it on her cell phone.
Patrick Greenfelder, the attorney for the boy's parents, said her actions were not appropriate under any circumstances.
"You hear of bullying by other students and other kids in class. I have had cases like this before, but I have never had a case with teachers and administrators bullying," Greenfelder told ABC12.com.
Although the school board voted to fire her late last year, McVey is currently on paid administrative pending a private hearing of the charges against her. Goodrich Superintendent Scott Bogner said the district "is obligated to respect that right and will not discuss specifics of this case."
Despite the video, some parents are rallying behind McVey, according to CBS12.com.
"She is very compassionate,” one parent said. “She has taught the children compassion. She has taught them how to accept others.”
