Get Your Glow On With Nighttime Stand-Up Paddleboarding

Why We're Over The Moon For This Nocturnal Work Out

Stand-up paddleboarding (or SUP, to the initiated) is the must-try workout of the moment. We've seen Rihanna exercise her core, yogis doing headstands and even goats chillaxin'. What more could we possibly want from this versatile and trendy beach sport?

That's right. Ingenious folks from Hawaii to Key West have strapped LED glow sticks to the bottom of their boards, allowing paddlers to glide over illuminated waters. The best perk? The lights attract fish.

From your safe, dry perch under the moonlight, you can watch as all manners of sea life come to you. Depending on the intensity of the lights on your board, you can see up to 15 feet deep and 50 feet around, the New York Post reported.

"I've had octopus come up while paddling in Key West and hold onto the board," Billy Rossini, owner of Nocqua Adventure Gear, told Men's Journal. "I've seen sharks and tarpon attacking minnows that are attracted to the light. They come up and bump the board a little, it's exhilarating."

We might steer clear of shark-infested waters, thank you very much, but the nocturnal experience can be quite exhilarating all the same.
