Five Books That Blew Our Minds, 1955-1975

At first glance, these books have very little in common -- a racially-charged tome and one of the most praised linguistic publications in history, a "near-pornographic" erotic novel and "a heart-tearing psychological drama" set in a mental institution. But each of these five books has been considered a watershed in its own genre, and pivotal in helping to shift the way we see the world.

The following is the first in a new Huff/Post 50 series called "Books That Blew Our Minds."
