Twenty years after uber music fan Kevin Arnold started the festival with a single show featuring Overwhelming Colorfast (and don't forget opening act Bitchcraft) at a now-defunct club on Divisadero Street, Noise Pop has gradually become a San Francisco institution.

Since those heady, flannel-clad days of the early 1990s, the festival has boasted performances by indie superstars like the White Stripes, Modest Mouse and Death Cab for Cutie.

This year, Noise Pop celebrates two decades of exposing San Francisco to some of the best music around with dozens of events such as performances by indie rock royalty like The Flaming Lips and Built to Spill, movie screenings, ping pong parties and art gallery shows.
