Noise Pop Day 4 consisted of a much more high-spirited show than expected. Real Estate accompanied with some seriously talented openers played the first of a two day show at The Independent. Although Real Estate is a New Jersey based band, their keyboardist is based in San Francisco. It would be difficult to know that the band doesn't hail entirely from the Bay Area with the amount of people that jam-packed The Independent on Friday.
The Shilohs, a folky-pop band out of Vancouver were a real pre-treat to what was promised to be a fantastic show by Real Estate. Johnny Payne and Mike Komaszczuk formed The Shilohs back in 2008 and their first EP came out in 2010. If you haven't had the pleasure, then you should definitely check them out.
Reading Noise Pop's brochure, it was rather easy to see that a lot of fans were pumped to check out Real Estate in such an intimate setting. The Independent has been the setting for a lot of large name bands who have either played or will be playing in the near future. Skrillex, Chromeo, and The Wailers are just a few of the names worth mentioning. Real Estate played an engaging and energetic show for a band that's often seen as a mellow indie-rock act. If you didn't have a chance to see them at Noise Pop, be sure to add them to your list of bands to track and catch them next time they head back to the Bay Area. Check out my photos below!
