As the holidays are quickly approaching, USA Today reports several nonprofits across the country are busy assembling packages to send to troops deployed around the world.
In a tough economy, many charities are receiving fewer donations, leaving some struggling to support the troops.
The biggest challenge? Postage.
According to USA Today,
The task at hand is finding enough money to ship the gifts overseas, organizers say. Postage to Iraq and Afghanistan is almost $100 per box, says Andi Grant, president and founder of Give 2 the Troops.

Donate to any of the organizations featured by USA Today:
• Operation Shoebox sends snacks, hygiene items and beanie babies to deployed troops. You can make a monetary donation online to help cover shipping costs of care packages -- or ship donated items to the organization's Florida headquarters.
• Give2TheTroops sends care packages to servicemen and women far from home. You can contribute a cash donation on their website or drop-off food, entertainment and hygiene items to the organization's North Carolina or Connecticut locations.
• Operation Gratitude also sends small gifts and messages of support to troops overseas. You can contribute to the organization online or volunteer assembling packages in California.
The USO also sends care packages to the troops. Each box includes civilian items, such as toiletries and magazines, and a thank you message. You can donate $25 online to send one box to a deployed soldier.
