Fifth Harmony member Normani Kordei has long impressed fans with her powerhouse vocals. Now, it looks like she has dancing chops to match.
Kordei and her partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, quickstepped their way into our hearts on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” premiere Monday night. (Check out their stellar performance below.)
The pair danced to Erin Bowman’s “Good Time, Good Life,” earning Bowman’s glowing praise.
“She did such a good job,” Bowman told Billboard. “I love Fifth Harmony, and to have Normani dance to my song is amazing.”
The judges’ comments were similarly complimentary. Julianne Hough said the couple “nailed it,” while Len Goodman called the number “first class.” Nevertheless, the duo earned a somewhat disappointing score of 27 out of 40.
Despite that, Kordei and Chmerkovskiy seemed pleased with their performance.
“I couldn’t be happier,” Chmerkovskiy told E! News in the clip above. “I’m so lucky. I think I have the best partner this season for sure.”
It seems the ladies of Fifth Harmony agree. Kordei said her bandmates were cheering her on from afar.
“They all texted me actually, before I went on,” Kordei told E! News. “It was the sweetest thing. They’re amazing.”
She added, “They love me and I love them so much.”
Fellow Fifth Harmony member Dinah Jane shared her love for Kordei on Instagram after Kordei and Chmerkovskiy’s dance number.
“WOWzers!! They absolutely killed it,” she wrote. “Highkey had me teary eyed.”
It could be a long road ahead for Kordei and Chmerkovskiy, who can only rehearse in the downtime between shows on Fifth Harmony’s Asia tour and will fly back to Los Angeles every week to compete.
But if their first performance is any indication, they’re a force to be reckoned with this season.
