New York City Nature: North Woods, Central Park

After living in New York City for over 20 years, I am just now starting to explore the wonders of my own back yard. I spent the afternoon exploring the North Woods section of Central Park, where you really do feel like you've gotten away from it all.

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I've lived in New York City for over 20 years and I am just now starting to explore the wonders of my own back yard. I decided to take a "day-cation" and spent the afternoon exploring the North Woods section of Central Park. The North Woods is one of the more remote sections of the park located in the north west corner from about 100th to 110th street. It was originally designed to resemble the region around the Adirondack Mountains. I happily explored the many nature paths -- it's amazing how the sights and sounds of the city fade away and all you can hear are waterfalls and birdsong! It's in the heart of the city, yet after an hour or so of trekking through the North Woods, you really do feel like you've gotten away from it all. A day-cation delight!
