The New York Daily News doctored its front page photograph of the Boston bombings (see update below).
On Tuesday, newspapers across the country splashed images from the horrific explosions that went off by the Boston Marathon finish line. The New York Daily News used a graphic photograph, taken by John Tlumacki of The Boston Globe, which depicted a woman lying on the ground receiving aid, surrounded by blood.
On Tuesday night, Orange County Register editor Charles Apple posted a story on his blog questioning if the Daily News had doctored the front page photograph, claiming that the woman lying on the ground had a severe leg wound in the original photo that was missing from the cover shot. "Looks to me like somebody did a little doctoring of that photo to remove a bit of gore," he wrote.
The original image can be seen on the Boston Globe's website and below. The woman's leg in the background was, indeed, severely wounded. Her leg has no visible wound on the NYDN cover, also below.

Tlumacki also snapped the photograph of police surrounding the fallen 78-year-old runner after the first explosion went off. That photograph would later appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
UPDATE: 1:20 p.m. -- Daily News spokesperson, Ken, Frydman, commented on the paper's decision to alter the photograph in a statement to Capital New York's Joe Pompeo.
"The Daily News edited that photo out of sensitivity to the victims, the families and the survivors," Ken Frydman said. "There were far more gory photos that the paper chose not to run, and frankly I think the rest of the media should have been as sensitive as the Daily News."
