NY Daily News On Senate Gun Deal: 'ALL FOR NOTHING' (PHOTO)

The New York Daily News continued its series of tough gun control covers on Thursday, ripping the Senate's compromise on background checks.

The News has gone on an unabashedly opinionated, British tabloid-style campaigning crusade for tougher gun laws in the wake of the Newtown massacre. The paper made its views on the compromise--which expands background checks on guns but falls short of universality--clear. "ALL FOR NOTHING," the main headline read. Surrounding it were thumbnails of eight covers the paper has done over the past months.

In an accompanying article, the News condemned the bill as a failure:

Four months after the devastation of Newtown, Conn., a Senate gun control compromise announced Wednesday would expand background checks for would-be weapons buyers -- but achieve little else, critics said Wednesday.

The ban on assault weapons appears lost. Limits on high-capacity magazines remain unaddressed. And guns sales between individuals can continue without government review.
