President Obama's approval rating sunk to a new low for the 11th quarter of his presidency, according to Gallup's daily polling of public opinion over the course of his presidency.
According to the new Gallup release, Obama's approval rating over the course of the 11th quarter was 41 percent. Obama's approval rating in the 10th quarter of his presidency was 46.8 percent, according to Gallup.
Huffpost Pollster's trend estimate of Obama's approval, which is based on all public polls including Gallup's daily tracking poll, has also shown a drop in Obama's approval since the middle of 2011, and now estimates that Obama's approval rating is 42.5 percent.
The nearly-6 percent drop is the largest in Gallup's measurement of Obama's approval rating since he dropped from 62 percent in the 2nd quarter of his presidency to 52.9 percent in the 3rd quarter. Although Obama's approval rating has dropped from a high of 63 percent in the first quarter of Gallup's polling, his approval rating had mostly stabilized prior to the latest drop, varying only from 46 percent in quarter 8 to 46.8 percent in quarter 10.
In Gallup surveys on presidential approval since the Eisenhower administration, only Jimmy Carter had a lower 11th quarter approval rating than Obama. Carter's approval rating was almost 10 percentage points lower than Obama's, at 31.4 percent. Two other presidents had 11th quarter approval ratings below 50 percent in Gallup's polling -- Ronald Reagan at 44.4 percent and Bill Clinton at 46.4 percent.
(Gallup began conducting their daily tracking survey in October 2008, so data on previous presidencies come from combined results of Gallup's individual surveys during that period).
Gallup's 11th quarter data for Obama was gathered between July 20 and Oct. 19 and includes interviews with 45,989 adults, for a margin of error of 1 percentage point.
