Autopen On Twitter: President Obama's Autopen, @ObamasAutopen, Now Tweeting (TWEETS)

Obama's Autopen Now Tweeting

The autopen, the device that President Obama used just before midnight Thursday night to sign the order extending the Patriot Act by four years, has started to tweet. Yes, that's right -- @ObamasAutopen, aka AOTUS (Autopen Of The United States) has joined the ranks of the Bronx Zoo Cobra, Osama bin Laden and other things/people that, for all intents and purposes, should not really be tweeting.

With Obama an ocean away in Europe and time marching toward the stroke of midnight, the White House determined it was easiest to have his autopen get the job done - a tool that exactly mimics the president’s signature and is more commonly used to sign Christmas cards and letters to schoolchildren. Indeed, this is the first time the Obama administration has ever used the unique device for such weighty purposes as putting laws on the books.

The account is a few hours old and has only 430 followers, but ABC's Jake Tapper has already retweeted one of @ObamasAutopen's tweets to his 119,000 tweeps.
