Obama Daughters' Privacy: Will Sasha And Malia Continue To Evade The Spotlight? (VIDEO)

WATCH: Will The Obama Daughters Continue To Evade The Spotlight?

There's a premium on privacy these days and as the daughters of the 44th president of the United States, it's virtually impossible to come by. But Sasha and Malia Obama have managed to live their formative years largely away from the spotlight, due in part to an unwritten rule guiding news coverage of the girls.

“From the beginning of the administration, the White House has asked news outlets not to report on or photograph the Obama children when they are not with their parents and there is no vital news interest,” Kristina Schake, the spokeswoman for first lady Michelle Obama, said in a statement last year following a story that ran on several websites about a spring-break trip to Mexico that Malia took. “We have reminded outlets of this request in order to protect the privacy and security of these girls," she added, highlighting the White House's efforts to suppress the piece.

Now, as Sasha, who arrived in the White House as a second-grader, moves on to middle school and Malia reenters the White House as a teen, it will be even more important to keep the Obama girls' privacy in check.

But officials say it will be tough. See why they're concerned in the video above and some of our favorite Malia and Sasha moments in the slideshow below.
