WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama will visit San Bernardino, California, on Friday to meet with families of the victims of the recent mass shooting there that left 14 people dead and 22 others injured.

Obama will stop there en route to Hawaii, where he's heading for the holidays, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said in his Wednesday briefing.

The meeting will be private, and there won't be any press access, Earnest said.

The Dec. 2 shootings in San Bernardino were the deadliest since the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. They also marked the 355th mass shooting of the year, meaning there have been more mass shootings this year than there have been days.
