Obama Wishes George H.W. Bush A 'Speedy Recovery' After Fall

The former president will be fitted for a neck brace.

Former President George H.W. Bush received a call from President Barack Obama on Thursday wishing him a "speedy recovery," according to a White House pool report, after Bush fell and fractured his neck Wednesday at his Maine home.

"The President extended best wishes on behalf of himself and the First Lady," Principal Deputy White House Press Secretary Eric Schultz told the White House pool.

Bush, 91, fractured his C2 vertebrae during the fall and has been hospitalized at Maine Medical Center in Portland, where he will be fitted for a brace, his office said in a statement. It added that Bush hopes to heal from the injury without surgery.

Bush, the oldest living former president, is in a wheelchair because of Parkinson's disease. In 2013, he was treated for problems related to bronchitis.
