Obamacare Girl's Identity Revealed

Obamacare Girl's Identity Revealed

Everyone’s most pressing Obamacare question has been answered!

The identity of the "Obamacare girl" has been revealed. That’s right, that smiling face that greeted frustrated users on healthcare.gov is Adriana, a documented immigrant from Colombia, according to Fusion.

“I’m a mother and I’m a wife, and I’m not a professional model,” Adriana told ABC News.

The Colombian immigrant is not a U.S. citizen, but she is a permanent resident that has been living in the U.S. for six years. She's able to apply for healthcare and is not undocumented, as earlier rumors suggested.

Adriana decided to speak out because she said that all the controversy over the site had turned into bullying aimed at her, and that it was affecting herself and her child.

“It’s some sort of bullying,” said Adriana. “I’m here to stand up for myself and defend myself.”

After the site’s glitch-filled launch in early October, users took to social media to express their frustration. Many of them ended up attacking the image that was the “face” of the page.

Her photo was taken down two weeks ago, causing a frenzied search for the Obamacare Girl. It still wasn’t enough for Adriana -- she decided to go public and try to clear her image.

"I mean, I don't know why people should hate me because it's just a photo. I didn't design the website. I didn't make it fail, so I don't think they should have any reasons to hate me," Adriana told ABC News.

For those who were wondering, she was never paid for the photo.

Adriana is now able to shrug off a few of the comments made about her. Her response to Stephen Colbert calling her a "vaguely ethnic smiling woman:"

"I'm pure Colombian," she told ABC News, laughing.
